Turmeric is one of the most healing spices. Research regularly shows that the spice has both anti-inflammatory and healing properties, which in turn can help reduce the risk of various chronic diseases.
However, according to a nutritionist, there are several groups of people who should avoid turmeric. Especially in capsule form.
“Unfortunately, turmeric can be filled with toxic ingredients and even heavy metals such as lead,” the expert warned.
“Silicon dioxide can be added to prevent caking in lower-quality supplements, and flour supplements as fillers can contain gluten, so they are harmful to those with celiac disease or gluten intolerance.”
The doctor specified that it is safe to take 500 to 1,000 milligrams of turmeric per day. However, adverse symptoms can occur when people exceed 2,000 milligrams per day or consume low-quality supplements. According to the doctor, taking too much curcumin can also lead to gastrointestinal discomfort and nausea.
“There is some concern that people at increased risk of kidney stones may suffer from oxalates, present in turmeric,” the doctor also added.
