It is no longer a secret that brisk walking is directly related to more long life However, scientists say that the rule only works for those who can cover the maximum distance in six minutes without stopping or resting.
According to a study published in the “American Journal of Clinical Nutrition”, for those who takes a 20-minute walk every day, the risk of early death is reduced by more than 30%.
“People who walk quickly can live 20 years longer. Thanks to such walks, they improve the state of the cardiovascular system, which is an indicator of the efficiency of the heart and the ability to use oxygen,” said Tom Yates from the British University of Leicester.
In a new study published in JAMA, scientists decided to find out how brisk walking affects patients suffering from peripheral artery disease. As a result of the work, it was established that a higher walking speed is associated with relief of pain and other symptoms of the condition.
According to experts, the optimal indicator is the ability of a person to walk from 400 to 700 meters in six minutes (4- 7 km/h) – in this case you can talk about good physical training. However, doctors note that the score may vary depending on gender, age or health.
