According to a new study by scientists from the University of Oxford, having good friends can be important for stomach health.
The research team found that the more social monkeys, the more beneficial microbes in their bodies. The bacteria can be transmitted through simple touch and have benefits, including boosting the immune response and anti-inflammatory effects.
Monkeys who spent less time with their friends had more strep, the bacteria that cause diseases such as such as acute pharyngitis and pneumonia in people.
