The risk of heart attack has been linked to diseases of the oral cavity

For example, some signs in the mouth will warn of a stroke. Heart attacks occur when an artery that supplies the heart with blood and oxygen is blocked. The cause of this is fat plaques, which are formed due to an increased level of cholesterol in the blood.

Inflammation of blood vessels also leads to a heart attack. It is provoked by bacteria from the oral cavity. Professor Adam Taylor from Lancaster University explained how this is related.

He said the mouth is full of good and bad bacteria. The latter develop especially intensively with inflammation of the gums or teeth. In a number of cases, such bacteria enter the bloodstream, cause inflammation and eventually can cause a heart attack.

What signs in the mouth indicate the threat of a heart attack? According to the scientist, the plaque on the teeth, which looks like a sticky film, should cause concern. It is like that because it consists of fat and other substances. And bad bacteria are actively developing in it.

A sour taste in the mouth should also alert. Pain in the jaw, which many describe as a severe toothache, is no less dangerous. Dr. Taylor said this could also be a symptom of a heart attack.
