An active lifestyle has long been known to reduce the risk of many diseases. Moreover, a new study shows that it is possible not to engage in high-impact sports in order to improve health.

According to scientists, the secret of longevity is to regularly increase the number of steps taken per day. They assessed the association of steps with premature death from all causes among men and women aged 41-65.

The experts also used data from accelerometers, which are devices that can measure the number of steps taken.

The intensity of steps was divided into three groups: low (less than 7000 steps per day), moderate (7000-9999 steps per day) and high (more than 10000 steps per day).

After analyzing the obtained data, the researchers found that a higher intensity of daily steps taken was associated with a lower risk of death from all causes.

Scientists noted that adults who took more than 7,000 steps per day compared to those taking less than 7,000 steps per day had a 50-70% lower risk of premature death.
