The thermometer crashed – to fear or not?
0
do not panic exactly! We decided to reassure you and answer the most common questions what to do and whether it is worth afraid of a broken thermometer.
Emergency doctors and MOE rescuers say that you should not be afraid: there are 2 g of mercury in the thermometer, and this amount is not enough to cause significant damage to your health. You can do this by calling the Ministry of Emergency Situations or in special paid services, which are quite a lot, but the call will be quite expensive, from 1000 UAH. and above. The second option is the Ministry of Emergencies. Experts will tell you how to collect mercury properly.
how to collect:
- Remove young children, pregnant women, sick animals and anyone who can interfere, and close the door of the room. Wear rubber gloves. If there is a respirator, shoe covers or gauze bandages, you can also wear them.
- Find a jar with a tight lid and fill it with water. You can do this with a piece of paper and a small brush (just wave the balls with a brush on paper) or, as a last resort, a wet cotton swab. Small balls can also be collected on adhesive tape
- All the balls should be dumped into a jar of water and then inspect the surface again, illuminating it with a flashlight. If the mercury remains, it will glow.
- When you collect everything, the jar should be closed tightly, and the floors in the room and all the surfaces where the mercury was mercury is washed with a solution of potassium permanganate. (If there is no potassium permanganate, then you can chlorine). It is better to wash the floor several times a day, and keep the window open during the day.
- the jar should be left (on the balcony, for example). In 2-3 days of the Ministry of Emergencies the Ministry of Emergencies will arrive and take it for disposal. It is not possible to throw it on a trash or garbage line, it is also impossible to drain its contents into the sewage system. To do this, you will need to make a re -call in a few days.
Important:
- not sweeping mercury with a broom: the balls will break, turning into dust, and it will be very difficult to collect them. Create in the apartment.
