Three-time Olympic equestrian champion Charlotte Dujardin was removed from participation in the 2024 Olympic Games.
The British athlete was accused of cruel treatment of a horse. She hit him at least 24 times.
The International Equestrian Federation suspended Dujardin for six months. The 39-year-old rider left the location of the Great Britain team.
Dujardin reacted to the incident, saying that she was very ashamed. The British woman decided to withdraw from all competitions herself during the investigation.
“What happened is completely out of my character and does not reflect the way I train my horses or train my students. However, there is no excuse. I am very ashamed, and I should have set a better example at that time,” said the rider.
Dujardin won six Olympic medals in her career, including three golds. In Paris, she could become the absolute record holder among British athletes for the number of awards at the Olympics.
