The well-known linguist explained how to say in Ukrainian “debt is handsome in payment”.

Citizens were reminded of the peculiarities of their native language and explained what Ukrainian equivalents of the phrase “debt is paid handsomely”.

All the nuances were explained by teacher and linguist Oleksandr Avramenko.

For according to him, some citizens have difficulties when they try to translate phraseological units. As an example, Avramenko cited the catchy Russian phrase “debt is paid handsomely” and told what the correct Ukrainian equivalents are.

The linguist emphasized that it is not necessary to translate phraseological units literally, because the result will be nonsense.

“Friends, stable combinations of words cannot be translated literally. Here are some examples. In Russian, “debt with payment is handsome” – “debt with settlement is red”? Of course not. Or “shirt guy” – “shirt guy”? Or another example: “a thief's hat is on fire” – “a thief's hat is on fire”? It turns out some nonsense,” noted the Ukrainian teacher.

According to Avramenko, the phrase “debt with handsome payment” in Ukrainian has the following equivalents:

If you don't return, but you took it, then pay it back ;

At least somewhere, at least there to intercept, and pay the debts.

“Rubaha-paren”, which came to us from the Russian language, is correctly translated into Ukrainian as “boy-friend” or “sincere soul”. As for the phraseology “the hat is on fire”, the Ukrainian should use the equivalent “who stole the piglet, his ears are squeaking”.

To sum up, teacher Oleksandr Avramenko called on citizens to learn the language that came down to us from our ancestors.
