The youngest commander of the Armed Forces: 22-year-old Yaroslav is fighting in the Donetsk direction

“The youngest of the commanders,” is what 22-year-old Yaroslav calls himself, who defends Ukrainian positions in the Donetsk region.

FREEDOM tells us what motivates the young commander and his unit.< /p>

Fighters of the 59th separate motorized infantry brigade repulse the assaults of the Russian army in the Donetsk direction. They work with the D-30 howitzer.

“Here is a crowbar — in case the cartridges get stuck, we knock them out with a crowbar, and the problem is it happens very often,” says commander of the howitzer unit Yaroslav.

Yaroslav is 22 years old. He is a battery commander. After the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, a former student decided that he would get a higher education after the victory.

< p>“In terms of age, I am probably the youngest commander, but people are pulling for me, I showed myself not from the worst side. I always take care of my crew. The sky is on the monitor. If it's a “bird”, I say: to shelter. People's lives are more expensive,” says Yaroslav.

“Before the war, I was the head of the village, and I am the head of the village. I am a logistics manager. Kyiv Metro – a fitter, repaired and ensured the movement of trains. We are not personnel soldiers, we came from civilian life,” say howitzer fighters.

All of them are representatives of peaceful professions. But here they have a common military goal – to expel the Russian invaders from Ukrainian land.

And now there is something to beat the enemy. Yaroslav assures: saving on ammunition is no longer necessary.

“Ukrainian production has now gone. It worked out, yes. By the way, they behave much better than foreign ones. Foreigners do not listen to proofreaders, and the cannon does not want to shoot them. Ukrainian shows himself from the best side in terms of shooting efficiency and accuracy. Shells are even more piled up. That's why I'm in favor of Ukrainian production,” said Yaroslav.

Every well-hit shot, the commander notes, raises the mood of the entire calculation. Because everyone here knows what they are fighting for.

“I am here not to came to my family. If we give back, sooner or later, that will be it. There is no way out – only forward,” concluded Yaroslav.
