There are three signs that help recognize autism even in adults

People are born with autism, and it can first appear at a very young age. Autism is not a condition that requires treatment or “medicine”. However, some people may need support to help them with certain things. Here's how to identify three behavioral signs.
People with autism may only exhibit certain signs.
Since people without autism may also exhibit some of these signs, according to Autism Speaks, it is “extremely important” to get a professional evaluation.
The symptoms are usually divided by age into those that can be seen in children and adults. These three behavioral signs are independent of age and can appear at any time:
- Preference for solitude
- Avoidance of eye contact
- “Unusual and intense” reactions
“Unusual and intense” reactions mainly occur to sounds, smells, tastes, textures, light and color, according to Autism Speaks.
People with people with autism may experience both hypersensitivity (overreaction) and hyposensitivity (underreaction) to various stimuli.
Most people with autism may have a combination of both. Hypersensitivity can manifest itself in the presence of bright light, certain sounds, smells, textures and tastes.
Similar factors can be predominant, leading to “unusual and intense” reactions. This can manifest in anything from physical touch to unexpected sounds.
Hyposensitivity can cause difficulty recognizing sensations such as hunger, illness or pain.
