There was a “muddy” rain in Kyiv: what is the reason and is there any danger (video)
On Wednesday, April 24, dust from the Sahara, which the day before, it covered Greece, reached the territory of Ukraine, and “yellow” rain fell in Kyiv, which surprised the residents and guests of the capital. According to experts, dust in the atmosphere over our country will remain until Friday.
Dust particles have already covered the southern and central regions and will spread further to the north. This was reported in the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center on Facebook.
Thus, an active cyclone from southwestern Europe brought dust and sand from the Sahara in high-altitude flows. In some regions of Ukraine, this phenomenon can give the clouds a yellowish tint, and the raindrops themselves will have a “dirty” color.
This is the kind of “muddy” rain that caused dust from the Sahara and passed in Kyiv. Such precipitation can contaminate outer clothing, as well as leave streaks on the surfaces of cars and plants.
As you know, a dust storm is an atmospheric phenomenon in the form of the transfer of dust (large amounts of dust, soil particles, sand) by the wind from the earth's surface in a layer several meters high with a noticeable deterioration of horizontal visibility (usually at the level of 2 m it is from 1 to 9 km , but in some cases it can decrease to several hundred and even several tens of meters).
During this, dust (sand) rises into the air and dust settles over a large area at the same time. Depending on the color of the soil in the given region, distant objects take on a gray, yellow, or red hue. It usually occurs on dry soil surface and wind speed of 10 m/s or more. Common in deserts, semi-deserts, arable steppes where strong winds blow.
