These five foods are best avoided if you want a healthy heart

Yes, there are risk factors for developing cardiovascular diseases that you cannot influence. For example, this is heredity. However, improving your diet can also play an important role in maintaining heart health.

Mayo Clinic cardiologist Elizabeth Clodas named five foods that are best avoided to keep your heart healthy.

Skim milk. Instead of animal milk, try almond, cashew, or macadamia nut milk. This drink contains more unsaturated fats. Other options include flax, soy, or hemp milk. If you are worried about a calcium deficiency, simply include cabbage, broccoli, beans, oranges, and other foods rich in this element in your diet.

Diet sodas. It is better to drink water instead, and in addition to it, green and black tea. Studies show that these types of tea are associated with a lower risk of heart attack and stroke.

Bread. This also applies to baked goods in general. A healthier alternative to regular bread is one that contains at least 3 grams of fiber per 100 calories. You can also see seeds and grains on such bread.

Margarine. It may contain palm oil, which raises cholesterol. It is better to choose margarine made from flaxseed or olive oil.

Muesli bars. You can find added sugar, palm oil, and artificial sweeteners in such bars. Instead of bars for breakfast, eat oatmeal and nuts separately, and add fresh fruit or dried fruit instead of sugar.
