Mortal law has been extended in Ukraine once again – until May 9, 2025. This means that in February, as before, all Ukrainians liable for military service will be called up for military service. Who will go to serve and how the 50+ mobilization will take place – we tell in the material.

According to Ukrainian legislation, citizens liable for military service between the ages of 18 and 60 are subject to conscription. At the same time, if there is no “Conscript” status (for example, did not graduate from a military university, did not serve in the army), then they can mobilize only from the age of 25 – before this age, a citizen is considered a conscript and must be registered with the CCC and SP (territorial center of recruitment and social support).

Let us recall that last year the conscription age in Ukraine was lowered: previously, conscription was from 27 years old, now – from 25.

How mobilization is carried out in Ukraine today

Conscripts are considered citizens of Ukraine who do not have a deferment from mobilization, are not reserved by the state or an enterprise for other types of work and are suitable for military service according to the conclusion of a medical commission (VLK – military medical commission).

In accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On Mobilization Training and Mobilization”, general mobilization provides for the conscription of:

• all conscripts (except for the categories mentioned above) aged 18 to 60 – provided that they have experience of military service, as well as those who were previously removed from military registration, but are fit for service during the period of martial law;
• conscripts aged 25 to 60 – without service experience, as well as those who were previously recognized as limitedly fit (had such status) during the period of martial law.

Those who were previously removed from the register and are limitedly fit are required to undergo a repeated VLK by February 4 (inclusive).

At the same time, the information that only mobilization is possible up to the age of 50, and those over the age of 50 cannot be drafted was denied. As before, mobilization takes place after the age of 50 – Ukraine continues to call up such conscripts, but for service in support units. Mobilization after 55 years of age takes place in the same format – Ukraine calls up those liable for military service on general terms until they reach the age limit for service (i.e., 60 years).
