These substances and products will keep your brain in good shape

A new study on the impact of food on brain health suggests that certain eating habits can help improve cognitive function. You just need to eat foods that contain special substances.

In the study, the results of which were published in the journal Neurology, experts examined data from the Rush Memory and Aging Project (MAP).

The project involved 960 American adults, with an average age of 81. Most of the participants were white women. The study lasted about seven years.

The results of the study showed that those who consumed foods with the highest amount of flavonols (15 g of this substance per day, or about one serving of leafy greens) had a 32% lower rate of cognitive decline compared to those who received the least of these substances.

Scientists also studied how different types of flavonols affect the human body. In particular, attention was paid to kaempferol (found in spinach, cabbage, broccoli, beans, tea), quercetin (found in tomatoes, cabbage, apples, tea), myricetin (can be obtained from wine, tomatoes, oranges, cabbage).

When consuming the largest amount of kaempferol, mental functions decreased in people by 32% slower, when consuming myricetin – by 31%, when consuming quercetin – by 30%.
