Scientists have found that type 2 diabetes more than doubles the risk of death from some types of cancer. In this disease, the body cannot effectively use insulin, which is produced by pancreatic cells in sufficient quantities.
The researchers studied data on more than 137,000 people. They were followed for about eight years. The analysis showed that the risk of death from cancer overall was 18% higher in the presence of type 2 diabetes. For breast cancer, the risk increased by 9%, and for colon cancer, by 2.4 times.
Of the types of cancer for which a link with type 2 diabetes has been shown, the following are: liver, pancreatic, and endometrial cancer.
