It has long been known that salt is the enemy of the cardiovascular system. And foods low in sodium are considered the best for the heart. And there is one habit that will also harm your heart.
A recent scientific study has shown that one simple trick can help reduce the risk of developing heart disease. It consists in not adding salt to food after cooking.
The study studied the eating habits of 176,570 residents of the UK. At the time of the study, the participants had no cardiovascular disease at all. But a little over 11 years later, it became clear that there is a link between the development of heart disease and the frequency of adding salt to food.
The risk of developing cardiovascular disease in study participants was reduced when they added less salt to their food and when they followed a DASH-inspired diet. As part of this diet, sodium intake should not exceed 2,300 mg per day, which is no more than one teaspoon of table salt.
