“This is an adequate number”: Chmut was stunned by the number of people who needed to be mobilized

Conscript 160 thousand people will not be enough.

For effective defense, Ukraine needs to mobilize about 500,000 people.

This opinion was expressed by the chairman of the Return Alive Foundation, ATO veteran Taras Chmut in an interview with DW.

The journalist asked Chmut to comment on the statement of the Secretary of the NSDC Oleksandr Lytvynenko about the need to call up 160 more thousand Ukrainians.

“Our brigade can be staffed by 50%. And if you ask the combatant how many riflemen and directly the infantry, then there can be 15 people, 20 people, 25 people in the company. But on paper, there seem to be a lot of people. You have a complete headquarters, rear, communications, drones, snipers, scouts, some artillery, mortars and so on. But there is no infantry,” described the situation in the army, a veteran of the ATO.

He noted that currently the issue is not the quality of recruits, but their number. According to Chmut, the mobilization reserve of 500,000 of people meets today's challenges:

“And we have not been talking about the quality of people for a long time. We are just talking about some people. These numbers are just numbers. They are very detached from reality. 500 thousand is an adequate figure”.
