This is why it's dangerous to sleep after eating

After a heavy meal, you often want to lie down and take a nap. But you shouldn't do it, experts say. And there are several reasons for that.
After eating, many of us want to lie down and rest. However, scientists warn that such a habit will only harm your health. But why do we feel so sleepy after eating?
First of all, when we eat foods with a lot of protein (turkey, fish, chicken, etc.), our body begins to release serotonin. This hormone suppresses pain and has an effect on mood, and is also responsible for regulating appetite and sleep.
Also, after eating, blood glucose levels rise, and more insulin begins to be secreted. It is because of insulin that drowsiness appears, since it suppresses the production of orexin. If the level of the latter substance is low, a person loses energy and feels tired.
In addition, if you go to bed immediately after eating, you may encounter some unpleasant health consequences. These are acid reflux and damage to the esophagus, an increased risk of developing esophageal diseases, esophageal cancer, impaired digestion, weight gain, and decreased sleep quality.
