Three expert tips to help gooseberries bear fruit abundantly
1
Gooseberries will bear many sweet berries if you provide the bush with comfortable growing conditions. Only in this case can we talk about ensuring productivity in terms of both the quantity and quality of berries. Experts gave three valuable tips on growing one of the most popular berry bushes.
Tips #1
Plant gooseberries separately from other plants. You should not plant flowers or various annuals next to it that you have nowhere to plant. Nearby plants will take nutrients from the bush. As a result, it will be worse to bear tasty and large berries.
Tip #2
Regularly feed the gooseberry. The first feeding is carried out in March or early April, when the snow has melted. After winter, you need to replenish the supply of nutrients. The second time, apply fertilizer after 15 days. And the third time after another 15 days.
At the very beginning, feed the gooseberry with urea in the amount of 15 g per 10 liters of water. From complex mineral fertilizers, you can then apply 30 g of superphosphate under the bush. If mineral fertilizers were not added during this period, then they can be replaced with garden compost.
Tip #3
In late June and early July, prune the longest shoots. You need to leave 5-7 internodes from the bottom, and cut everything above them. This will help the bush renew itself and increase the yield of sweet berries much better.
