Three factors that affect the reduction of currant and gooseberry yields

Tasty and sweet berries are a pleasure to pick. In order not to lose the quantity and quality of the harvest, you need to know what exactly affects its formation. There are three important factors that currants and gooseberries categorically do not like. Read about these bushes further in the post.

Shade. Currant bushes and gooseberries grow better in sunny areas. To some extent, they can also withstand shade, but they tend to grow in bright locations.

What will happen when grown in the shade? They will grow, but the yield will gradually decrease, and the quality will also decrease. In addition, the risk of powdery mildew increases in such conditions.

Thickening. Neither currants nor gooseberries tolerate it to the same extent. You need to systematically cut out the shoots. Carry out sanitary pruning every year, leaving 3-7 strong branches for restoration.

Moisture deficiency. Berry bushes are sensitive to water regime violations. If there is not enough of it, the currant leaves turn yellow. Growth decreases, and the berries become small. When overdried, gooseberry berries also lose their taste.
