Sausages, ham and bacon can raise blood pressure. Studies show that three popular foods in the UK, which are usually eaten for breakfast, can have a bad effect on the heart. They are known to increase blood pressure by 17%.
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is one of the causes of heart disease, stroke and heart attack. In general, meat is considered a healthy product, but it depends on its type. For example, red meat (beef, pork, etc.), as noted by the NHS, contains a lot of protein, vitamins, minerals.
However, such types of meat products as bacon, ham, sausages, on the contrary, can harm the body. They increase the risk of developing hypertension, so they should be avoided if possible.
According to the results of a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, red meat can increase blood pressure by 17%. This study involved 44,616 women from France. It turned out that the worst situation with high blood pressure was in those who ate five or more servings of red meat per week.
Moreover, the article states that just 50 g of meat per day is enough to increase the risk of hypertension.
The reason why ham, bacon, and sausages increase the likelihood of developing hypertension is that they contain a lot of salt.
