Three rules for effective fight against wireworms in autumn
0
It is impossible to completely rid the garden of pests, but reducing the population that constantly tries to spoil your plants is possible. Autumn is a good time to carry out such works. One of the mandatory points of the entertainment program is the fight against wireworms.
What makes it harmful
The problem is that wireworms feed on both underground parts of plants and above-ground parts. Everything is delicious to them. They make holes in plant bulbs and root crops, which leads to their deterioration. Especially potatoes suffer from this pest. After it, the harvest cannot be easy if there is a lot of damage.
How to fight
It is recommended to dig up the area every year. There is some debate on this point between old-school gardeners and the modern approach to organic farming, but the fact remains: digging reduces the wireworm population.
Weeds definitely don't belong on your plot. It may be difficult to constantly monitor it, but you have to do it. Cereal grasses and wheat grass contribute to the spread of the pest, so keep the site clean.
Use the rule: harvest the crop, free up space — sow everything with siderates. In this regard, it is best to use radish, mustard, rapeseed and legumes. In particular, to improve the soil, it is necessary to deacidify it once every 3-4 years. This will reduce the comfortable conditions for the reproduction of the wireworm.
