Two atypical risk factors for early death identified

Many factors affect life expectancy and increase the risk of early death, including poor diet, high blood pressure, obesity and smoking.
A recent study conducted by experts from Northwestern University in Chicago and the University of Surrey in the UK showed that two more factors can trigger premature death.
The study involved more than half a million middle-aged people. The press release published on EurekAlert notes that this is the first work to study the impact of these factors on life expectancy.
After analyzing the data, scientists concluded that the risk of early death is increased by 87% by poor sleep and diabetes, mainly type 2. At the same time, people with diabetes who did not have sleep problems were prone to premature death by only 12%.
It is also noted that the risk of early death increases not only lack of sleep in general, but also problems with falling asleep, as well as apnea (stopping breathing during sleep). Therefore, experts recommend starting to treat sleep problems at an early age. And they advise doctors to take such patients more seriously.
