Scientists from Japan have established that life expectancy can be increased with the help of drinks that are included in the daily diet of every person. Researchers have previously linked them to various health benefits, but now it turns out that together they can be a really effective means of longevity.
Although most people prefer either tea or coffee, it turned out that their combination brings exceptional benefits. This was the conclusion reached by a group of researchers after analyzing the effect of drinking green tea and coffee on the health of almost 5,000 adults with diabetes.
It turned out that the probability of early death was 15% lower in volunteers who drank one cup of green tea a day, and in those who drank two to three cups – by 27%. Those participants who drank four cups had a 40% lower risk.
When it came to coffee, drinking one cup a day was found to reduce the risk of early death by 19%, and two cups by 41% . The highest rates were among those who consumed four cups of green tea and two cups of coffee daily.
“We found that higher consumption of green tea and coffee was significantly associated with lower overall mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes,” the scientists said.
According to Victoria Taylor, a specialist from the British Heart Foundation (BHF), drinking four or five cups of tea has a positive effect on heart health. She noted that this amount of caffeine will not harm the body. Even people who experience a small increase in blood pressure after drinking a cup of coffee see a stabilization of the condition over time.
However, she cautioned that some are more sensitive to caffeine and may experience an increased heart rate. In this case, it is better to give up coffee.
