Unexpected benefits of vitamin D for the body discovered

Researchers said that vitamin D helps the body fight tuberculosis.
“For the first time, we have shown that vitamin D improves the immune system's ability to fight Mycobacterium tuberculosis,” said one of the authors of the work.
This connection was proven by a special patient. She was born with a mutation that makes her body unable to respond to vitamin D.
The researchers compared the patient's cells with the cells of people who are able to absorb vitamin D and found a difference between them. Immune cells from patients who were able to absorb vitamin D were found to be more effective in fighting tuberculosis.
