Unprofessionally performed massage is dangerous for the spine

The most dangerous area of the body for massage is the back, the masseuse warned in an interview.
The masseuse said that a professional masseuse (if not an osteopath) does not touch the spine. He massages along the spine, working out muscle clamps.
If a person is given a home-made massage, the most that can be done is light stroking, scratching, or tapping. At the same time, even these actions should not be performed if, for example, the back hurts.
The masseuse noted that many people, having felt a “shooting” or painful discomfort in the back, ask someone close to them to knead or massage it. In this case, a massage that is performed unprofessionally is especially dangerous for the spine.
The specialist emphasized: if there is back pain, you should not knead it, walk on it, press hard, or pull a person by the arms.
“It is very dangerous to massage a person who has pain in some area of the back. This can lead to pinching of the nerve, and later to numbness of the fingers or limbs in general. “There may also be displacement of the intervertebral discs, which leads to protrusions, intervertebral hernias and the development of osteochondrosis,” the masseuse clarified.
She added that undergoing a massage course with specialists once every six months is useful for almost everyone. For some types of sports or sedentary work, when muscles become stiff, it is useful to visit a masseuse once every one to two weeks.
