Have you ever seen a blue-green shell around the yolk of a boiled egg? It's not harmful, but it's not exactly appetizing. The color change occurs due to improper cooking, when the eggs are overcooked, and the hydrogen sulfide from the protein reacts with the iron in the yolk. To avoid this trouble, you need to know a few simple rules.

But the natural color of the yolk does not depend on cooking, but on the feed that the chickens are fed. A deep yellow or even orange color is a sign that the chicken is eating natural food, such as corn.

Useful tips on how to cook eggs correctly

  1. Put the eggs in cold water. The water should completely cover the eggs. And it is better to put the eggs in cold water so that they heat up gradually, and thus avoid cracking the shell.
  2. Bring the water to a boil over medium heat. As soon as the water boils, reduce the heat to a minimum so that the water barely simmers. This will allow the eggs to cook evenly.
  3. Cook for 9-12 minutes, depending on the size of the eggs. For a large egg, the optimal time is 10 minutes. The longer you cook, the greater the likelihood of a blue shell.
  4. Immediately after cooking, put the eggs in ice water for a few minutes. This will stop the cooking process and make it easier to peel.
