Deficiency of vitamin B12 in the body can be reflected in a person's appearance. This substance helps maintain the health of nerves, blood cells and create DNA. Therefore, in case of vitamin deficiency, anemia may occur. Several main symptoms will indicate B12 deficiency.
Change in skin color
In anemia, the skin may acquire a pale or yellowish tint. However, this does not mean that people with this skin color suffer from vitamin deficiency. In this case, it is important to monitor the changes.
Weight loss
When a person consumes fewer calories and starts moving more, he loses weight. But if weight loss occurs without physical exercise and changes in diet, the cause may be B12 deficiency.
General signs of this condition are called by Harvard Medical School:
- swollen, inflamed tongue;
- difficulty walking;
- problems with balance.
There are other symptoms of anemia. These include:
- fatigue and muscle weakness;
- rapid breathing and dizziness;
- irregular heartbeat;
- numbness or tingling in the hands and feet;
- difficulty thinking or being forgetful.
The Mayo Clinic noted that with a lack of vitamin B12, the red blood cells that distribute oxygen from the lungs throughout the body, begin to form incorrectly. As a result, gas is not delivered evenly and in the required amount throughout the body. Injections, supplements and the use of certain products will help to fill the vitamin deficiency. It is mostly found in eggs, beef, chicken, cheese, yogurt and seafood.
