Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to nerve damage, m “ulcer weakness, tingling and numbness in hands and feet and loss of reflexes, doctors say. According to them, deficiency can be indicated by loss of balance and problems when walking.
In addition, a sign of a dangerous condition is a smooth, swollen and reddened tongue, as found out by specialists of the US National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute ( NHLBI). This follows from the information published on the department's website.
Doctors explained that B12 deficiency increases the risk of pernicious anemia. The body needs the vitamin for the production of healthy red blood cells and the normal functioning of the nervous system.
Doctors added that a lack of B12 can cause neurological problems: for example, confusion, memory loss, depression and dementia. A deficiency can also be signaled by nausea, vomiting, bloating, heartburn, loss of appetite or weight, constipation or diarrhea.
Experts noted that sources of B12 are beef, poultry and fish, liver, eggs, yogurt, milk and cheese.
