By speeding up their walking pace, middle-aged and older people can increase their protection against the development of a dangerous degenerative syndrome – dementia.
The conclusion that walking at a fast pace makes the brain's protection against dementia stronger was made by researchers from Australia and Denmark.
Scientists analyzed the data of 78,500 people over the age of 40. Scientists have concluded that daily brisk walking is a very effective means of preventing age-related dementia:
“6,300 steps per day at a high speed reduce the risk of dementia by 57 percent, and in the case of power walking, by 62 percent.” ,
Scientists clarified that a high walking speed means that a person takes more than 40 steps per minute. According to their calculations, walking with an intensity of at least 112 steps per minute and a length of at least 30 minutes provides the best protection against the development of dementia. In a daily format, such walking improves the brain's protection against destruction by 62%.
