Doctors remind you: fat in the liver leads to inflammation and can later develop into cancer.
Statistically, almost 30 percent of the world's population suffers from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. This disease is characterized by the accumulation of fat in the organ under the influence of factors unrelated to alcohol intake – inactivity, overeating, abuse of sugar and carbohydrates.
In some cases, fat in the liver provokes inflammation, which can later progress to fibrosis, cirrhosis or liver cancer.
Meanwhile, physical exercise effectively helps to reduce fat deposits in the liver, the American Journal of Gastroenterology reported.
“According to a new meta-analysis, moderate-intensity physical exercise for 150 minutes each week significantly reduces the amount of fat in the liver in patients with fatty liver disease,” the journal reported.
The researchers analyzed the results of 14 randomized controlled trials involving 551 people who were diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Scientists found that, regardless of weight loss, exercise was 3.5 times more likely to lead to a 30% reduction in liver fat compared to standard treatment (no exercise).
The most pronounced fat-burning effect of exercise was demonstrated by subjects who exercised moderately for 150 minutes a week or more. Experts called brisk walking or cycling a good example of physical exercise for the prevention of fatty liver.
