Walnuts protect against widespread infection

A new animal study shows that regular consumption of nuts may be a promising intervention to reduce the negative effects associated with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection, which is a widespread disease affecting more than half of the world's population.
Scientists from the Cancer Prevention Research Center in Korea found preliminary evidence that a diet rich in walnuts may protect against the negative effects associated with H. pylori infection.
In particular, the study found that walnut extracts obtained from whole nuts can help create protective proteins and anti-inflammatory activity in the intestine that protects against H. pylori infection and, as a result, cancer in mice.
