Want to quit drinking? Scientists have revealed the secret

Neurologists from the University of Pennsylvania said that reassessing your life's purpose can curb your irresistible craving for alcohol.

Previous research has shown that a strong life purpose can improve your health. In the new study, 54 college students filled out daily surveys for a month, answering questions about their life's purpose and alcohol use. Participants also underwent functional MRI brain scans.

People who reported having a strong sense of purpose in life did not drink more after seeing alcohol cues—even when their brains indicated they were craving alcohol. On the other hand, people who did not have a sense of purpose were more likely to drink after being shown alcohol-related visual cues.
