Watching TV increases the risk of senile dementia

TV addiction in the elderly increases the risk of dementia. This is the conclusion reached by researchers from the University of Washington.
In old age, the main leisure activity is watching TV. Unfortunately, a sedentary lifestyle and such a cognitively passive option increase the risk of developing dementia by 24%, as the study showed, writes WashingtonPost. It was also found that if elderly people worked on a computer instead of a TV, their probability of senile dementia decreased by 15%, since this is a cognitively active activity.
When watching TV, we only observe what is shown to us, but do not think about anything in particular. When we sit at a computer, we choose what to read or watch ourselves, that is, we carry out a certain mental process. And in this case, the intellect is stimulated, which is a kind of training for the mind.
However, the study clearly showed that in both cases, elderly people did sit. And a sedentary lifestyle negatively affects health and brings senile dementia closer. Therefore, if a pensioner has enough strength to move, it is better to sit as little as possible.
