What can bruises warn about

Leukemia is one of the most common and dangerous types of blood cancer. The first symptoms of this disease appear on the skin, but many patients do not pay attention to these signs, since they seem insignificant.

We are talking about ecchymosis – subcutaneous hemorrhage, which manifests itself in the form of bruises. The peculiarity of bruises in leukemia is that they occur spontaneously. That is, not after bruises or other damage to blood vessels, but suddenly and without any particular reason.

Doctors explain this by the lack of platelets in blood cancer. These elements are responsible for blood clotting and “sealing” damaged vessels. The difference between “healthy” bruises and leukemia spots is that in the latter case there are much more of them. In addition, they can appear on the most unexpected parts of the body, where it is impossible to get a “random” bruise, for example, on the back.

In addition, the list of alarming symptoms includes:

  • Severe fatigue;
  • Unexplained weight loss;
  • Continuous bleeding;
  • Enlarged lymph nodes;
  • Swelling and painful sensations in the abdomen;
  • Frequent infections;
  • Night sweats;
  • Pain in bones and joints;
  • Shortness of breath.

If you have at least some of these signs, you should consult a doctor and describe all the symptoms that have appeared. It is worth noting that they are signs of other diseases that are in no way related to oncology. But to clarify the diagnosis, it is better to consult a medical specialist.
