What dangerous brain disease can be indicated by dizziness during a sharp rise
0 < p>Dizziness that occurs when suddenly rising from a sitting or lying position may indicate the risk of developing dementia, scientists from the University of California reported.
Experts conducted a large-scale and long-term study involving 2,000 people aged 12 to 70 years old. Their state of health was observed for more than 10 years.
It was found that in patients with low systolic pressure (hypotension), which is often the cause of dizziness, dementia develops 40% more often than in others.
The point is, doctors explained, that insufficient blood flow to the brain leads to deterioration of cognitive functions. In addition, with age, problems with pressure arise due to the loss of vascular flexibility.
Orthostatic hypotension can develop in the elderly – a decrease in pressure when taking a vertical position. According to scientists, 5% of people over the age of 50 and more than 20% over the age of 70 experience this phenomenon.
Thus, dizziness that occurs when standing up can be the first signal of vascular problems and the subsequent development of dementia. , says the study.
Dementia cannot be cured, but the process itself can be slowed down. Senile dementia is not so much a problem of the patient himself, who is practically unaware of what is happening to him, but of his loved ones.
Conduct the following test: ask the person you suspect has problems to draw a dial and hands so that a specific time was depicted. For example, let the hands point to 6 hours and 10 minutes. If a person is confused with the hands, numbers, the dial itself, this may be a sign of the onset of dementia. Do not delay and consult a doctor.
