It turned out that the “green” version of the Mediterranean diet can help people lose twice as much visceral fat as the standard version.
The “green” diet almost eliminates red meat from the diet and increases the amount of polyphenols. In a new study, scientists changed the standard Mediterranean diet, which usually includes a lot of olive oil? fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and minimal red meat.
In addition to 28 grams of walnuts per day, 294 participants consumed three to four cups of green tea and 100 grams of a green duckweed smoothie daily for 18 months.
The researchers note that duckweed is rich in bioavailable protein, iron, B12, other vitamins, minerals, and polyphenols. Dieters also replaced meat with other foods.
The results show that visceral fat decreased by 14 percent on the “greener” Mediterranean diet, compared with seven percent on the standard Mediterranean diet.
