What eye disease is inherited?

Scientists have called astigmatism a hereditary disease. This was shown by an analysis of 5,708 families, each of which consisted of a child aged 6 to 8 and both parents.
The researchers found that astigmatism in both parents is associated with a greater likelihood of astigmatism in the child. The greater the degree of astigmatism, the greater the risk.
“The results of this cross-sectional study suggest that parental astigmatism may have an independent and dose-dependent association with childhood astigmatism. Children whose parents have astigmatism should have early eye examinations for early detection of the disease to facilitate age-appropriate vision correction,” the researchers noted.
