What foods are dangerous for the brain?

Daily diet is more than half of the guarantee of health, and what your menu is made, it affects the state of the body. Harmful foods can cause inflammation, oxidative stress, accelerate cell aging, and much more.

The founder of Plant-Based Health Professionals UK, Dr Shirin Kassam, explained to Express how some foods can cause dementia and brain problems. She identified three groups of foods that can put cognitive function at risk.

First of all, these are sausages – sausages, bacon and ham. They contain a lot of saturated fat, which is associated with an increased risk of dementia. Such fats come from animal products. And processed red meat is particularly harmful, which negatively affects brain health.

This is also evidenced by scientific studies. For example, a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that an additional 25 grams of processed meat, i.e. sausages and the like, is associated with an increased risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Dr. Kassam included refined sugar in the second group. This ingredient is found in candy, cookies, soda, and sauces. A large amount of such sugar is dangerous for brain health because it affects cognitive function. Sugar increases inflammation and the risk of heart and vascular diseases, hence the negative impact on the functioning of the brain system.

“Interestingly, even artificially sweetened beverages have been associated with an increased risk of dementia in some, but not all, studies,” the doctor added.

Artificial sweeteners are the third group of dangerous brain products. Thus, the study showed that volunteers who drank at least one artificially sweetened beverage per day were almost three times more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease.
