What foods should be avoided with type 2 diabetes, doctors said

Type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent) develops gradually. The first recommendation given by doctors for such a disease is to reduce sugar consumption. This includes, among other things, giving up sugary drinks or fruit juices.

“Choosing healthier foods is important to control diabetes and reduce the risk of its complications,” says British nutritionist Douglas Tvenefur, who works in charity Diabetes UK. Experts from the Global Diabetes Community warn that added sugar can be found in a wide range of processed foods. The most common of them are:

  • products (semi-finished products) intended for cooking in a microwave oven;
  • pasta sauces;
  • flakes for breakfast;
  • li>
  • dessert.

The community also gives four tips to those who want to reduce the amount of sugar in their diet. It is quite simple to follow these recommendations.

  • do not buy food more often than once every two weeks;
  • replace sweet cereals and flakes with plain porridge or whole grain cereals;
  • < li>the best drink for those who want to control sugar levels is water;

  • get into the habit of eating fruit instead of sweets or desserts.

As Diabetes UK explains, fruit contains sugar, but it is “natural sugar”, it is different from the sugar added to chocolate, cookies or cakes.

It is also very important to follow a healthy diet when you have diabetes. It consists of a large number of fruits and vegetables, whole grain carbohydrates, beans and nuts. In addition, it is necessary to reduce the consumption of salt, red meat, processed meat and saturated fats.
