Wine is one of the most controversial alcoholic beverages. Connoisseurs of Merlot or Chardonnay never tire of reminding us of the medical recommendation: to drink a glass of red wine every day. However, modern studies prove that regular consumption of wine, like any other alcoholic beverage, can have a detrimental effect on health.
Many factors determine the dosage, but drinking every day risks increasing your tolerance to alcohol. This means that each time you need more and more alcohol to feel its effect. And this is not a positive factor. It will seem to your brain that you are still sober, but new doses of alcohol will affect your internal organs and the entire body as a whole, even if you do not feel dizzy or euphoric.
In addition, any alcoholic beverages increase the risk of developing cancer. Alcohol can cause cancer of the brain, esophagus, liver, breast, and colon.
Drinking wine, cognac, or any other drink to relieve stress is a bad idea. Or, to be more precise, it is a temporary solution to a permanent problem. If wine can calm you down after a hard day at work, you should think about changing the type of activity, not the drink.
This is also justified from a physiological point of view. The more alcohol you drink, the more your body produces the stress hormone cortisol.
Doctors conclude that in order to benefit from a glass of red wine, you need to monitor the dosage. With moderate alcohol consumption, the transmission of stress signals to the amygdala decreases. This reduces the risk of heart disease.
But once a glass of red becomes a habit and you decide to increase the dose, this benefit is offset by the harm to the cardiovascular system and the entire body.
