What happens to your brain if you don't sleep?

Scientists from the Leibniz Research Center for the Work Environment and Human Factors have learned how sleep deprivation affects brain function. It turned out that this effect extends not only to brain activation, but also to the connection between neurons. And all this is related to memory.
A person must get enough sleep to work as efficiently as possible during the day. In addition, lack of sleep impairs attention, memory, and learning ability. Information is processed poorly or not at all by the brain, and new neural connections are formed with difficulty.
There is a difference between complete sleep deprivation and work that does not match the individual's sleep and wakefulness phases. In the latter case, neuroplasticity (the brain's ability to change) and excitability decrease at suboptimal times of day, while excitability increases with sleep deprivation.
In addition, a new study by specialists from the Leibniz Research Center for the Work Environment and Human Factors says that sleep deprivation impairs brain function and disrupts connections between neurons.
