On July 8, Russia committed a terrible war crime – it launched a direct missile attack on the Kyiv Children's Hospital “Okhmatdyt”, which is the largest in Ukraine.
The name “Okhmatdyt” is shortened from “protection of motherhood and childhood”. This is a Kyiv multidisciplinary diagnostic and treatment facility, which is the largest children's hospital in the country.
The hospital was built in 1894 at the expense of Ukrainian entrepreneur and philanthropist Mykola Tereshchenko. Then it was an institution for menial workers and poor people.
After the revolution of 1917, the hospital expanded: in addition to therapeutic beds, a tube dispensary, a maternity hospital, and a consultation for mothers and pregnant women were placed there. In ten years, the Institute of Maternity and Childhood Protection appeared on its base. And in 1957, the hospital received the status of a specialized children's hospital.
In 1975, surgical and neonatological buildings were opened in the hospital, and in 1998, the Center for Children's Oncohematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation.
In 2000, the structure of “Okhmatdyt” was finally formed, which is still active today.< /p>
In 2011, the project to build new buildings of “Okhmatdyt” started, for this purpose four old buildings were demolished on the territory.
The general contract for construction was concluded between SE “Ukrremproektbud” and LLC “Ukrprofmed”. The approximate cost of the new building was estimated at 1.8 billion hryvnias, it was planned to open before Euro-2012. The area of the new building was to reach 1.8 thousand square meters. m, and the number of beds is 324.
It was not possible to complete the construction of the new building of “Okhmatdyt” within the planned time frame, and then it completely stopped due to lack of funding. At that time, it was 2013, the cost of the works had already increased to 2.5 billion hryvnias.
In 2015, the general construction contractor was changed: Ukrremproektbud signed a contract with Ukrprofmed LLC.
However, within a year, former director of Ukrprofmed Ihor Kuchma and Ukrremproektbudu Iryna Koval were arrested on suspicion of embezzlement. In 2022, the High Anti-Corruption Court found them guilty of abuse and sentenced them to 4 and 5 years in prison, respectively. Last year, the Appeals Chamber of the VACS acquitted them, the prosecutor's office appealed this decision – currently the word is with the Supreme Court.
In 2015 and 2016, the construction contractor was changed again: a contract was signed with Altis-Construction LLC, then with Riola-Modul LLC. At that time, the cost of the project had increased to 3.2 billion hryvnias.
Construction was resumed, and in December 2017, the first phase of the medical and diagnostic complex was put into operation – three blocks with a total area of 26,000 square meters. meters A linear accelerator, computer tomography, three-modal OFET-PET-CT and MRI system were launched.
In 2020, the construction was completed. In total, in the period from 2011 to 2021, 4.2 billion hryvnias were allocated to the construction of “Okhmatdyt”.
As of today, the hospital has 720 beds: somatic inpatient beds – 408, surgical beds – 312. Every year, 20 -30 thousand cases.
