What mistakes do gardeners make when they are going to transplant strawberries

To ensure a successful strawberry harvest, it is necessary to periodically transplant the plants. How to do it correctly and when we will figure it out together.
Planting time
Strawberry bushes grow every year, extra shoots and tendrils appear, which suck out juices and greatly reduce yields.
The berry needs to be periodically rejuvenated, transplanted, and moved to a new location. Research has shown that the period of maximum growth and fruiting lasts about 3 years.
Note: legumes (peas, beans) can be planted in the old place where strawberries grew. They saturate the soil with nitrogenous elements and increase germination.
After 1-2 years, the same bed can be used to grow berries again with a higher yield.
The bushes can be transplanted into prepared soil in early spring after frost or in the fall, when the plant's leaves begin to wither.
At the beginning of the year, favorable conditions are created for further growth: a large amount of moisture in the soil, warm weather, long daylight hours. The disadvantages include disruption of the root system. In the first year after planting in a new place, strawberries may not bear fruit.
Autumn transplanting in September, early October is more favorable due to heavy rains, still high temperatures.
This allows the bushes to take root well and produce flowers next year. Summer transplanting is possible, but it is resorted to infrequently so as not to disrupt the vegetation and ripening.
Planting stages
How to properly plant strawberries in a new bed:
- Soil preparation. Areas on the sunny side are suitable. The soil should be loose. You need to add a little peat and fertilizer to each hole.
- Dig up the bush completely, spread it out on a flat surface, and divide it into shoots.
- The process requires care to preserve as many live roots as possible. It is useful to spray the shoots with disinfectant solutions and leave them for a couple of hours to fertilise.
- Pour water into the hole, plant the bush and bury it with your hands. Do not tamp it down.
Such simple life hacks will help you keep your strawberry harvest high, get new bushes and enjoy the fragrant berries all season long.
