What not to do when you have insomnia

Sleep is very important for the human body. During the rest period, the body recovers, relaxes and is filled with energy for a new day. However, insomnia and restless sleep can disrupt these processes.

People who suffer from insomnia have difficulty not only falling asleep, but also waking up. In the morning they feel exhausted, lethargic and incapacitated. If you can’t get rid of insomnia, you should see a doctor. Perhaps this condition is a symptom and you need urgent treatment.

There are many ways to combat insomnia, but most of them are not only ineffective, but also harmful.

Lying without sleep
For example, experts do not recommend staying in bed if you cannot fall asleep for 20 minutes or more. Turning from side to side, finding a comfortable position, and even looking at the ceiling will only worsen insomnia. It is best to get out of bed, walk around the apartment, drink water, look out the window, and only then return to bed.

Coffee in bed
It is also not recommended to drink coffee before going to bed, as caffeine remains in the body for a long time and may be the reason why you cannot fall asleep quickly.

Break for rest
Daytime sleep also negatively affects the process of falling asleep at night. A long rest in the middle of the day will disrupt your biological rhythm and force you to sleep with the onset of darkness.

Alcohol and sleeping pills
A glass of alcohol will not have the expected “sleepy” effect. On the contrary, a large amount of alcohol consumed causes awakening during the night and reduces the overall quality of sleep.

You should not abuse sleeping pills either. Firstly, because the dosage of such a drug should be prescribed by a doctor. Secondly, sleeping pills have a number of side effects. You can get sleepy, but lose concentration during the day, and if you take the pills for a long time, you will become addicted.
