In the fall, raspberries are fed, pruned, and transplanted. Attention to raspberry plantings does not end there. There is another important point in the care program. It is based on the following – searching for shoots damaged by pests.
Who harms raspberries
A small but harmful midge. Its length is only 1.6 mm. It lays eggs for wintering in gall-like swellings on the branches. The eggs are orange-yellow. It is not difficult to see shoots with such formations. The places are swollen.
Females like to lay eggs on young shoots and at the base of the buds. After 12 days, the larvae achieve integration into the bark, and after 2 weeks you can see swellings on the shoots. In damaged plants, the movement of juices is disrupted. Over time, the shoots dry out. It is necessary to fight the pest without fail and with radical methods. The damaged parts are cut out and burned. In particular, thinning is carried out.
