What Ringing in the Ears Could Mean: Linked to Vitamin Deficiency
0
People suffering from B12 deficiency may periodically experience ringing in the ears (tinnitus). After all, this water-soluble vitamin plays a vital role in the work of the brain, the production of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and red blood cells.
This relationship was described in a study by the US National Institutes of Health. The scientists pointed out that the specified problem is described even on Egyptian papyri dating back to 6000 BC.
During the research, the doctors conducted an experiment: they gave the patients a vitamin B12 test and audiometry before and after six weeks of treatment. Of the total number of people tested, 17 people who had ringing in the ears had a lack of B12 in the body (42.5%).
We note that B12 is also important because it is needed for the production of myelin – a protective and the insulating sheath that surrounds the nerves. Therefore, its deficiency leads to deterioration of communication between nerves. This can be the cause of constant or periodic tinnitus.
