What should be the pot for a plant in which the root system is rotting
0
Some gardeners have plants in terrible condition. The problem lies in care errors. The appearance of rot indicates overflow, as well as an unsatisfactory condition of the soil. And the matter is not only in its composition, but also in its density. If it has turned into concrete, and the plant is constantly wet and does not dry out, rotten roots are guaranteed.
What to do with the plant
Of course, it needs to be transplanted and processed. Rescue begins with this. Remove the plant from the pot, soak the soil and free the roots from it.
The next stage is working with pruners. You need to cut off everything that is rotten. It is possible that the volume of the root system will decrease. Treat with fungicides. If not, then with chlorhexidine.
Now you can transplant into new soil and the fundamentally important moment comes – choosing the right size for the pot. Initially, it could have been larger, but you processed and cleaned the roots, so changes are needed.
You need to take a pot that is slightly larger than the root system. Literally by 2 cm. Large and with a margin is not recommended, because it will be difficult for the plant to grow so many roots to fill the free space. In addition, the soil will dry out for a long time, which will provoke repeated rotting of the roots. So don't make mistakes.
