What to add to coffee instead of sugar

Of course, any nutritionist will tell you that you should drink coffee either in its pure form, or by adding lemon, ginger or red pepper to it. Sugar and milk in coffee are prohibited for all followers of healthy eating. Not everyone likes the tart taste of the drink, but everyone wants to cheer up in the morning. The experts of the Baazar publication told what natural sweeteners can be added to coffee instead of sugar so as not to harm the body.

Coconut sugar

Coconut sugar is actively used in the production of sugar-free desserts, buckwheat chocolate and other products for proper nutrition. And this is the rare case when it is not just a successful marketing move, but a truly healthier alternative to white sugar. This sweetener is made from the juice of cut flower buds that grow on coconut trees. It contains vitamins B1, B2, B3 and B6, which help fight stress and provide energy, as well as fatty acids, in particular, such as glutamic acid, which help the body's metabolic functions. In addition, coconut sugar has a low glycemic index, which means it does not provoke a sharp jump in blood glucose.

Maple syrup

Maple syrup is suitable not only for pouring pancakes and waffles, but also for giving coffee a sweet taste. Of course, there are a lot of calories and sugar in it, but in small quantities it can be very useful for the body. The syrup is rich in zinc (necessary for maintaining strong immunity and cell regeneration) and magnesium (an important mineral for the correct course of almost all processes in the body, especially electrolyte metabolism and protein synthesis) and, like coconut sugar, boasts a low glycemic index.

Honey

Like regular white sugar, honey causes a sharp spike in blood sugar levels, which increases hunger and, in the long run, leads to weight gain and chronic disease. But all these unpleasant consequences threaten only those who use honey uncontrollably. If you eat no more than 1-2 teaspoons. per day, do not expect any harm to the body. Natural honey is a source of antioxidants – phenolic acids and flavonoids. They provide reliable protection of cells from damage by free radicals, improve skin condition and prevent aging processes. Active substances in the composition of natural honey can have a beneficial effect on the health of the heart, reducing the level of “bad” cholesterol and strengthening the heart muscle. True, honey loses all these properties when heated, so it should be eaten with coffee in a bite, and not mixed in a hot drink.
