What to add to mashed potatoes to improve the taste

It's hard to find a person who doesn't loves mashed potatoes. But often the puree can turn out dry or lumpy, but if you know the right techniques, you can avoid these problems and prepare a perfect dish that will impress even on the festive table.
Ingredients:
- 1 kg of potatoes
- 200 ml of warm milk or cream
- 50 g of butter
- Salt to taste
- Optional: greens, garlic or cheese
First peel the potatoes and cut them into equal pieces so they cook evenly. Boil in salted water until soft, about 20-25 minutes. Do not let it overcook, as this can spoil the texture.
After draining the water, let the potatoes stand for a while so that excess moisture evaporates. Next is the most important step: adding butter and warm milk. It is important that the milk is exactly warm, otherwise the puree may become sticky. Add the milk gradually, beating the potatoes until smooth.
Tip: do not use a blender or mixer to beat the potatoes – this can make the puree “sticky”. It is better to use a pestle or even a whisk to get a light and airy texture.
For a more interesting taste, you can add some garlic, grated cheese or finely chopped greens. This will add new notes to mashed potatoes.
